The worldwide Video Games market is showing an increase of 18% in 2013, compared to 2012 and this growth forecast is comfortably expected to continue until 2014 & way beyond that! According to the US information technology research company Gartner this growth is being fueled by an increase in mobile & smartphone gaming – as more devices are being used, the mobile gaming category is expected to show the biggest growth in entertainment and Mobile Video Game Applications (Apps) will make up a big part of that.

What does this all mean for the UK gaming job market; as the Government has recently announced tax breaks for Video Gaming companies within the UK, this means more skilled individuals are needed to fill this growing job market and Games Courses (GC); www.gamescourses.com have been focused on offering approved national courses, where qualified individuals have the opportunity to work in either the UK or further afield.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

The App Production Course is relevant for mobile the mobile platforms; iOS, Android, Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8. The course is designed for applicants who wish to develop a career in the computer games industry. This course is taught through a series of lessons and live examples, where the applicant would be expected to project-manage practical examples. The App Prod course is about taking a mobile application to market so more a business qualification (unlike the App Development course where the student will be expected to developed a mobile app) and to do this the student will be expected to understand the build of the app & all the strategy / theory / targeting / marketing / financing to make the app a financial success in the marketplace.

As with all the Video Games courses on offer, it's expected applicants have a desire and flair for playing games - understanding how they work, how to improve the users experience and especially for the emerging and fast changing platform of mobile game playing across different applications. The course will help applicants develop their in-built skills and potential to be set-up in the world of mobile gaming.

The course is accredited by TIGA (the regulatory body for the Gaming Industry) – this is a unique course and recognised qualification. Creating a mobile app for Games is a learning process, which will also enable applicants cross over to other business sectors.

Applicants will learn about the new gaming technology available and course modules cover; all aspects of games design, development, art animation and testing. Successful completion of the course will enable students with the skills & knowledge to work for a leading mobile games development company.

SALARIES FOR THIS ROLE

Typical graduate salaries start at around £20,000 (similar to an App Developer); although this can vary considerably depending on the size of the employer and the sector in which you are working. Once established, a typical salary can range from £34,000 - £40,000.
The typical salary range for a senior applications producer is approximately £45,000 - £50,000.

Salaries vary according to the size of installation/application and the location and nature of the employer's business. The top-range salaries are mostly found in the finance and consultancy sectors based in London and the South East.

Contracting rates of pay are around double those of permanent staff.
